US Redirects 100 Ships in 6-Week Iran Blockade Operation
US Central Command (CENTCOM) disclosed the operation's full scope in a post on X, confirming that a sweeping military blockade has been in effect since mid-April.
"Over the past six weeks, more than 15,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen have redirected 100 vessels, disabled four, and allowed 26 humanitarian aid ships to pass," CENTCOM said.
The blockade — ordered by President Donald Trump — took effect on April 13, targeting all commercial shipping entering or departing Iranian ports without exception.
According to CENTCOM, enforcement applies broadly across the region, with the blockade "being enforced against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman."
The operation's sheer military footprint underscores Washington's determination to maintain maximum pressure on Tehran. More than 200 US aircraft and warships are actively participating, including the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, the George H. W. Bush Carrier Strike Group, the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, alongside multiple guided-missile destroyers.
The disclosure comes as Secretary of State Marco Rubio signaled Saturday that diplomatic negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program and Strait of Hormuz access were inching toward a potential resolution — though he warned the standoff would be settled "one way or the other."
