Tehran Sets Terms for Maritime Transit Through Strait of Hormuz
Ebrahim Azizi, who leads the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission, stated on social media that access to the strategic waterway will depend on Iran’s newly established terms. He added that what he described as a long-standing era of “hospitality” in the strait has come to an end.
In a separate statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the conflict has had a direct impact on regional stability, affecting not only the Strait of Hormuz but also the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. He warned that the situation could have far-reaching implications for the global economy.
Speaking to an international news agency, Baghaei explained that ships from countries not considered hostile would still be allowed to pass through the strait, provided they coordinate with Iranian authorities in advance. He emphasized that these measures are aimed at maintaining safe navigation through the critical route.
